My hair is naturally dark brown and I want to get pink highlight or tips. Tips seem a better idea because if I can hate it I can cut it off. I know pink fades is there anyway to prevent that? any ideas? warnings? I could get pink extensions instead? just shooting for ideas. My hair is just below shoulder length and needs a style to go with the color help???

i use coloured extensions on my hair coz i dont wanna over-process my hair. and with extensions u can always choose the exact shade that u want. so go for extensions

I got pink highlights once and it was a hot mess! It would have looked really great if not for the fact that the stylist who did it for me pulled my hair through a cap - as normal highlights often are. It wasn't the look that I was going for at all. It blended in too much and I had wanted the pink streaks to kind of stand out more.

I'd suggest - if you decide to get pink highlights instead of using hair pieces - that you have your stylist (or whoever's highlighting your hair) FOIL them in. And even then I wouldn't do very many to start out with (incase you don't like it) and I would take the hair in small, chunky sections and add color. And I would only do the top layer of hair or so.

Also, with dark brown hair it could be hard to get the desired pink you want. I have blonde hair, so it was really easy for me. However, people with dark hair typically have to bleach the intended area before dying their hair a lighter color - so I would check with your stylist on that.

I've highlighted my hair pink before. I wouldn't quite say I regretted it, but I admit, I did feel stupid at times because the color didn't match me at all. My hair is also naturally dark brown, and I don't think hot pink goes well with it. Another thing to consider is your skin color. Also, your satirical style may not go well with it either. Dying the tips only is not a bad idea... just not in pink. You want something different? Go with the extensions. Good quality ones can be pricey and require some work every time you use them, but you can make it worth it.

If you're absolutely sure you want to go with the pink, know that it will fade no matter what. Like these lovely ladies above me mentioned, you WILL need to bleach your hair before dying it that hideous color. The lighter your hair is, the louder the color will be, but of course, I didn't need to tell you that, right?

You are right about the types of hair being different. Synthetic hair (which I don't advise you to use but it is cheaper) should not be used again. It gets matted and is very hard to manage and if you try to wash it it will smell. Now there is human hair which can be washed, but I would only rewash that twice because although you can get longer wear out of it that will start to smell as well. Bottom line

Synthetic= do not wash wear once good luck

Human= use 2x comb out let air dry then get rid of it

When I had hair extensions my stylists used them maybe 2 times before they were no good every 4-5 months. It was nice because I didn't have to pay for new hair every time I wanted a little touch up or if they were looking dull. If you keep them up nicely and don't let them turn into a rats nest then you can reuse them. I don't remember the name of it but I do know that it was human hair that she used on me.

It really depends on if you got the real hair or the fake hair and if you glue it or sew it. If you sew it and get the real hair you can re-use it again, just make sure when you wash it it is completely dry when you wash it! Good luck!

I really don't suggest this unless the hair is still in great condition. Perhaps a few of the old tracks could be doubled up with new ones to create volume and density. Also if you are getting braids the hair is loose, not on a weft. It sounds like you need to order wefts now. These are totally different types of hair. Your tech should be your best source for hair. They have companies that they like for hair and can give you the exact level and tones you want to order.

If you can plait, you're half way there. I wear braided extentions that I do myself, and it just came with practise.

Here's how I do mine...

Section the small section of hair to be plainted

Take extention hair and tie into loop as though you are tying a knot but keep loose.

Loop this around the sectioned hair, tighten, and then start to plait hair down as you would normally. This is how I do mine and they never fall out, but best of all when you want them out they will slide out quite easily without having to be unplaited from the root. I do mine and all my friends - it just takes lots of practice.

well you have many different options. There is infusion, where individual strands of extension hair is added to your own hair by attatching it with glue at the base of your scalp. Then you have bonded weaves where tracks of hair are glued to your hair. BOTH OF THESE WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR HAIR IF DONE INCORECTLY.

The best method is the sewn-in weave. I have been doing my weaves for years 7 to be exact. www.myspace.com/senciti (for pics) First wash and condition your hair. Then add a thermal protectant like Lusters PInk Oil or Moisture Cream from biosilk then blow dry hair. Then choose your style and braid the base according to your style, for example if you want a part on the side leave out enough of you natural hair to part and conceal tracks. If your hair is long /thick enough also leave out about a 1/2 in wide along hairline so you can pull it back and put it in a ponytail. Now that your hair is sectiond off begin to cornrow small thin braids that connect at the center of the head then braid together all loose ends and using a c-curve needle and color matching thread sew the loose end of the braid to the center. Now you can begin adding hair sew on hairat even increments begining at the nape ad working your way up. Once the last track is applied secure thread. Now remember to use good indian hair no the cheap BEAUTY SUPPLY store hair use REMI it last for up to a year and it can be dyed, permed, washed, just like real hair and still look good! Now that your weave is in, begibg to blend your hair with the weave by using a ceramic flat iron like a CHI ironto smooth natural hair and after some styling your'e all done!

Woahhh. Why trying to have everything fake? Okay well... Keep your hair brown. Have the hairstylist foil in some highlights. I would do a caramel color and a lighter color to make it look tonal. Are you going to get new extensions put in? Also... depending on what tan you use, most of the time it isnt really worth it unless you have a special occasion because the spray tanning doesn't last really long; up to 2 weeks at the most and if you sweat it can run off, and it looks really fake. Just hop in a tanning bed. That way you don't have to worry about your tan rinsing off!

i put in glue-in extensions when my hair was about to my shoulders, and i took them out yesterday and it seemed like my real hair was shorter than when i put the extensions in. i dont know if this was me just imagining it because i was used to having longer hair though. so i was just wondering.

hey girl, from personal experience, i tell you YES weave does break your hair off...think about it, your masking you scalp with BLACK gunky glue--how is it supposed to breath? and it's a proven fact that if you don't wash your hair on a consistent basis then it's not going to grow; you know because your hair folicles are trapped with dirt, and smog and whatever else you encounter throughout the day. it's hard though, because weave is an amazing thing one minute you can have your hair short and the next long...so i know it's a hard cycle to break. you'd be surprised what products are damaging to ethnic hair: gel, hair spray, heat (curling irons) sleeping on it without tying it up (with a satin scarf) ...i mean there's a lot if things. take it from me girl...wash your hair every 2 days (try elucence products available at STRANDZ hair salons) wrap it while it's wet with wrap lotion and tie it with a satin scarf as oppose to blow drying, don't sleep on it without tying it up, if your going to use chemicals give yourself 14 days in between treatments and you'll start to notice a difference in your hair quality. now that i've gotten over my weave-a-licious stage my hair is the healthiest it's ever been and it long...oh yeah try taking vitamins too--there are some that are specially formulated for hair, skin, and nails. those help alot too

The glue can be damaging to the hair. Did you keep your scalp conditioned during the time the extensions were in, that is important. Also, sometimes when taking the extensions out all the hair that comes out seems like a lot when combing and can sike you into thinking you lost more hair then you would have had you not had the extensions in, but that is not true.

If the second picture is indicative of your current hair length, I'd say stick with your current style, it suits you well, but experiment with colors a bit. Maybe a brighter red with some blond highlights.

At night, wash your hair. While it is still wet, have someone help you put small perm rollers in your hair. (you can get them at beauty supply stores) You want to make sure that when you are putting the rollers in you are curling them away from your face if putting them in vertically, or curling them down, if putting them in horizontally. Leave them in over night. In the morning make sure your hair is completely dry. If not, use your hairdryer to dry your hair. Remove the curlers and you will have super curly hair like hers.

You can get temp extensions these days that you can wear just for one day. But just get good quality ones. And if they don't match your hair exactly, your stylist can dye them the same colour as your hair.

I have extensions on a year-round basis for fulness, not length, and I love them. I got hooked on them when I had them put in for my wedding! I would recommend them. The thing about it though, they're so expensive you might as well keep them in for the 2-3 months they last.

Woahhh. Why trying to have everything fake? Okay well... Keep your hair brown. Have the hairstylist foil in some highlights. I would do a caramel color and a lighter color to make it look tonal. Are you going to get new extensions put in? Also... depending on what tan you use, most of the time it isnt really worth it unless you have a special occasion because the spray tanning doesn't last really long; up to 2 weeks at the most and if you sweat it can run off, and it looks really fake. Just hop in a tanning bed. That way you don't have to worry about your tan rinsing off!

Best to ask your own stylist. I would definitely go with highlights instead of a full blond. Any time you lighten your hair it is done with a bleaching aid. I'd go with a honey colored highlight and not throughout your whole head, mostly on top and around your face, a few in the back. And don't do really chunky highlights...it's very dated. :) Get foils, not the cap.

Even to have it done professionally, it still takes a couple of hours to apply them They did look good, but they did not last months, only a couple of weeks. They said it was something you could learn to do yourself, but initially it would take hours to apply them. They also recommended you use eye liner as well. No, I don't think they would damage your eyes unless you poked yourself in the eye. I hope this helps.

So I have recently gotten it into my head that I want a nice green in my hair. The style I want is my natural brown on top with the underneath a forest green. (you can get them at beauty supply stores) You want to make sure that when you are putting the rollers in you are curling them away from your face if putting them in vertically, or curling them down, if putting them in horizontally. Leave them in over night. In the morning make sure your hair is completely dry. If not, use your hairdryer to dry your hair. Remove the curlers and you will have super curly hair like hers.

oh my gosh....i have short hair and just for fun i wanted to put in some extensions...so i put in glue ins. NOT A GOOD IDEA. they got pretty itchy after a couple days, and so in the shower i ripped them off. that hurt like a mother too....and i was left with huge glue clumps all over my head. and they were sticky too. it was disgusting. i felt SO dirty. so i had to go to the beauty store and buy some OIL for my hair and a special shampoo. it got SOME of it out but it was still such a pain in the ***. and i still have like one or two little clumps in my hair..and this was like a month and a half ago! definitely do clip ins....its fool proof too.

If the clips are put in right, they won't be bulky. It may be wierd at first thought because it's much heavier than your normal hair. I think clip in ones are great. i personally have them. I have the real human hair ones so I can curl and straighten them. They are amazing. And I can take them out and put them in as often as I please. I got mine on ebay and I think it was about $100 for pretty long ones. It was a great deal. I say go for it! Plus they are great if you have school dances or whatever and you want a big up do but don't have the long hair for it. I have hair a little longer than my chin and I had an amazing up do for my wedding and no one could tell that wasn't my real hair!

without any research I was desperate enough to trust a woman who used the hot fusion method to apply extensions to my hair. It looked great at first, but the hair was incredibly heavy and would dry out in a matter of days. I had to continue to go back to the salon.

Time, time, time. It stinks but the good news is it WILL recover, it just takes, you guessed it - TIME. Good news, you are young and presumably healthy. It will just have to grow back in. It may be hard but if you can, cut the rest of your hair, the healthier stuff, shorter to blend in sooner with the shorter, coming back hair.

Continue taking hair growth vitamins anf try to wash your hair only once a week. The oily your hair is, the faster it grows. Instead of wearing extensions, you should try lace front wigs. They will not thin out your hair.

I'd say go to your local chemist, pharmacy, drug store, hair salon etc and ask if they have any

'Deep Conditioning Treatments'.

I use a brand called Swartzkopf (i think thats how you spell it), for deep conditioning and it has worked wonders for me.

My hair is slowly recovering but its worth it.

They usually say on the labels "leave in for 10 minutes". I personally leave it in for and hour for better results.

As long as your stylist doesn't put the braids in too tight it is not harsh on your hair so I say go for it. You should sew in a weave. You get cornrows in the back or your hair or on the sides and you buy some weave tracks that are the same color as your hair. Make sure the braids are tight. You could prob get away with washing your hair every 2-3 days. Basically you sew the tracks into the braids. When your all done, your real hair will cover up the extensions. It involvs no glue. If you find it too hard, maybe you should go to the salon for the first time. One of my roomates (white) fuses weave to her hair and her hair is soooo thinned out, so your smart by not doing any kind of glueing or fusing.

DO NOT bleach your hair. Especially if it is already badly damaged, it will kill your hair. Get a deep conditioning treatment [I recommend Joico KPAK Deep-Penatrating Reconstructer] and use it every other day until your hair gets better. Also on the days that you're NOT using the deep conditioner use a moisturizer on your hair. Red hair is very difficult to bleach out, you'll probably have to heavily highlight it for a while to eventually achieve blonde. But don't color it at all till it gets better. [at least two months from now] If you can try cutting back on using your flat iron, and if you don't already have one, get a real ceramic straightener. Extentions are really bad for your hair if you get the kind that use glue, the ones that are sewn in aren't as bad. But, I would wait till your hair is in better condtion. Good Luck. [:

I Bleached my hair and it takes quite a while to get it to the exact color you want. If your hair is really damaged most hair dressers will not bleach your hair. If you Straighten your hair often you are sapposed to use a heat protecting spray for your hair. Anyways, before you bleach your hair you should get it as healthy as you can. Put alot of Conditioner and if you end up bleaching it I suggest using blue or purple shampoo it makes your hair not go yellow.

On to number 2 i have extensions and i used clip In's their 100-400 depends on the length you get them... if you get clip ins their easily removed. if you get the kind that is weaved in, it is extremely painful trust me and you will not want them in for long.

If you can plait, you're half way there. I wear braided extentions that I do myself, and it just came with practise.

Here's how I do mine...

Section the small section of hair to be plainted

Take extention hair and tie into loop as though you are tying a knot but keep loose.

Loop this around the sectioned hair, tighten, and then start to plait hair down as you would normally. This is how I do mine and they never fall out, but best of all when you want them out they will slide out quite easily without having to be unplaited from the root. I do mine and all my friends - it just takes lots of practice.

The sewn-on hair extensions actually happen to be the cheapest to put in. What happens is braids (cornrows) are made from left to right at the back and sides of your head. Then, rows of hair (must be human hair if you are having them dyed) are sewn to the braids with thread that matches the hair colour. This does not hurt at all, but you may not like it when the braids are being done and they should be tight. The next day you may have some discomfort, but you will get used to it.

In terms of cost, the human hair (if you purchase it at a beauty supply store) can vary with the quality. For 'Remy' hair (meaning the best quality) you can pay $100 for a package with a weft of 30 inches wide. For lesser quality (which isn't bad either) you can expect to pay up to $70. I would strongly suggest you purchase your own hair and then bring it to the salon to have it sewn in. There is a large markup when you buy in-salon. The salesperson at the beauty supply store will help you choose the right shade and texture (curly, straight, wavy).

In terms of colouring your hair, try to wait until you get the extensions in first. That way you can have them dyed as well. If you are adding blonde and don't want to look super-fake, I would suggest doing honey blonde and strawberry lowlights as well as lighter highlights. This will help the highlights blend better and not look too chunky. To have highlighting done, expect to pay between $80-120.

To save money, talk to your stylist and see if they can do both the extensions and the highlights on the same day and to give you a special price because you are getting so much done.

Yes, it will grow back. It wasn't the extensions themselves that caused this. When they're attached be it a weft (weave) or in segments; a lot of tension is put on the natural which can cause breakage at the scalp area or near the extension placement.

Also, humans normally shed 75-100 hairs per day. When wearing extensions this hair is not allowed to fall out as it is encompassed in the small braid or attachment to the extensions.

This could be a combination of both factors. Don't worry :)

Well if I had to guess why your hair wasn't growing I would say it's from all the damage. The relaxer is extremely damaging then you have the extensions. Your hair is probably breaking off so it appears it isn't growing.

To grow your hair longer take out the extensions and stop the relaxers. Take a good multivitamin. Biotin and MSM also incourage growth. There are root stimulators and other things that are supposed to work but I wouldn't garuntee it.

Try some over-the-counter pre-natal vitamins....seriously!! The hair grows from the roots - so it has nothing to do with your extensions! If you're reluctant about pre-natal vitamins then try flax-seed oil vitamins.

There isn't anything wrong with wearing extensions, it's just VERY important how your getting them put in. I suggest getting all your ends cut, maybe into a layered style. Keeping it clean and healthy is key. I do suggest sew in weaves if you want to wear extensions, if done by the correct person, not too tightly braided, you'll find your hair will grow.

Hi. Thats your first mistake. Never glue your hair. Its like gum. Its hard to take out. I mean this in a good way but - YOU SHOULD KNOW BETTER, YOUNG LADY! I used to do that. When I had to take it out, I had to use acetone. By the time it came out, my hair was very thin and always broke off. Now, I am natural and when flatironed, 23 in. Look at the crown and glory method, how to shampoo, care for relaxed hair, everything. You wont be disappointed. You should take a multivitamin or prenatal vitamin, either one works fine, and a hair vitamin like GNC healthy hair skin and nails or just biotin tablets (aids in hair growth). Drink lots of water. Try to eat more fruits and veggies. I dont know if you'll be able to do this since you do have to buy it, but Im sure your parents can help. Most people dont know they need vitamins for healthy hair and body.

There are also some 100% essential scalp oils that will nourish your scalp too, great for scalp massages (theres one called wild growth oil, you will find it in beauty supply stores - the smell is overpowering, but it works). Check it out, some may seem expensive, but theyre way better than the others (see what you can afford, though). Lastly, dont have the extensions in your hair. Try to do without them for now. Your hair needs breathing. Once you follow everything Ive told you and create a routine for yourself, you wont need extensions because your hair will grow. Just because you see other people with them, it might not work for you. Just like with me. I want a change sometimes too. But thats what wigs are for :) Hope this helps you. God bless.

well, do you take care of your hair do you relax it when your suppose to do you wash it... do you wash it to often that might cause it to fall out.......and some brushes might tare out your hair and combs to .... you should use a treatment to help your hair grow and become stronger... i really don't know about extentions because i don't ware them .... hope i helped........
